We are excited to announce that Kathy Royal will be joining the Department of Geriatrics as
SUNY Upstate’s first Community Research Liaison.
Central to this position, Ms. Royal has robust ties to the Syracuse community. She has previous experience in administrative and outreach roles at the Center for Community Alternatives, Women’s Opportunity Center, Access CNY, Catholic Charities and the Salvation Army. Her experience with community engagement and outreach work will be invaluable to this position.
The Community Research Liaison’s (CRL) work will be embedded in the local community, building relationships with older adults, care partners, and advocates to provide a foundation for a new bridge between community members and aging researchers. Upstate’s research mission in health equity depends on true community engagement initiatives supported by this type of position and we are very excited to welcome Kathy on board. While the CRL’s initial outreach and engagement efforts focus on studies regarding aging and cognitive loss, our goal is to make the CRL role and associated recruitment accelerator a model to improve representation in clinical trials across all clinical trial programs at Upstate.
Welcome, Kathy!
